Our Nails Rock

Hi, Baukjen here.

It’s no secret that we love painting our nails here at Isabella Oliver so we were more than happy to try out Nail Rock’s nail wraps when they sent a few in to the girls in the office. I’ve been interested in trying out this latest nail trend ever since seeing an array of impossibly intricate designs on the hands of celebrities, and I was pretty impressed when these colourful packets arrived in the post.

We each picked out a different design and happily applied them, it was a little fiddly but as you can see from the photos below, the end result was pretty impressive. Most of the designs offer something which would be unachievable with nail varnish, so if you want to wow for a night out, they’re perfect!

Tan Talk

We just had another birthday cake at Isabella Oliver for our lovely Rosey and talk somehow turned to our developing suntans. To be honest I’m not sure how we got onto the subject, but when Baukjen walked into the kitchen she saw the rather odd image of us laying our arms on the table comparing tans. Baukjen quickly snapped a picture so you can see the results yourself – a spectrum of tans from our lovely England, Thailand, Tenerife and Morocco!

New Year’s Fever

Hopefully we all know what to wear for tonight, but if you’ re still in a panic, take a deep breath, open your wardrobe and try to wear something old in very new way. Once in a while I do that and it always encourages me to be inventive.

This is the time to pamper yourself – so girls let’s get ready. First have a nice bath with some scented candles and bath bubbles. A face mask is always a great thing to do after the Christmas rush, and especially before a big night out.

I always use this occasion to wear crazy coloured lipstick, and this one is on the top of my list. The name, Lady Danger says it all!

Try wearing a statement brooch with a pair of your favourite earrings, or something that always works for me is mixing a load of my favourite necklaces together (sounds a bit odd but trust me) and layering the different lengths so that you can transform simple look into a sensational one.

And remember make some New Year’s resolutions. One of mine will be not to be late anymore (that is a hard one)!

The new issue of the Maternity Magazine showcases our selection of gorgeous maternity dresses, illustrating how beautiful your bump can look in a figure-flattering dress. For this shoot, our very talented hair and make-up artist created a beautiful yet thoroughly modern look for our model which we all fell in love with. Helen kindly revealed the secrets to the hairstyle and showed us how recreate the look ourselves. Le Labo is a company I just discovered the other day, and I haven’t stop thinking about Le Labo and their gorgeous, heavenly products ever since. It is not everyday that a scent has such an effect on me. Le Labo’s mission (as they say on their website) is to create a “sensory shock the moment you open the bottle”, and I would say they have succeeded. Do check out their website here – it must be so incredibly difficult to put fragrance into words but they do such an amazing job, and I fell in love with the company after reading about them, and how passionate they are about what they do.
Le Labo, which is based in New York, create a line of perfumes, lotions and other divine smelling products that are so unique and pure and moving, to say the least. Each scent is formulated by hand and on demand in their N.Y. Lab. They are the only perfumes on the market that are “made to order”. Their last minute formulations allow the composition to stay fresh, which is the secret in the fullness and intensity of the fragrance.
The Rose 31 is my favourite and surprisingly, not smelling as you’d expect a rose to smell like at all. The warm, spicy and woodsy notes such as cumin, olbanum, cedar and a touch of amber give the perfume a little mystery. I am truly hooked. After my testing extravaganza that evening, I even contemplated not bathing until I could get back to the shop!
For Winter 2009, Le Labo also have a very exclusive range of 6 fine fragrances that pay tribute to the 6 cities they have boutiques in, and they are available in their home city only and nowhere else. Each boutique has 25 bottles and they are available for 1 month only, from 1st November – 1st December.

Everyone seems to be wearing it

Friends, family, people at work are wearing super bright neon colour nail varnish. It seems to be everywhere, though Vanessa and I are still in the ‘natural’ mood.
Whenever there is a colour we love, we always ask who it is by, and it’s always an Essie colour from their Neon Collection (and no, we are absolutey not being paid to say this). They must be having a good season.
Have a look here though the pictures don’t do the colours justice in our eyes.
