Hi, Baukjen here. It’s great to discover that our team members have hidden creative talents and yesterday Larysa from the production team surprised me with these beautiful eggs. She hand crafted them herself as a present for my children and I was so impressed with how gorgeous they are.
Larysa’s family is Ukrainian and she has given us the lowdown on the tradition behind them:
One of the traditions that happens every year in the Ukraine is the decoration of eggs. The traditional method is to use wax to decorate the eggs, and dye the eggs to build up the colours. Today, not everyone is as nimble handed to be able to create the designs using those methods, so these lovely plastic “jackets” have appeared and we started to use to them to quickly create really cute looking eggs. Designs range from the traditional look of Ukrainian Embroidery, to Religious Icons and lots of very sweet children’s designs. They are a really lovely and an unusual way to make Easter decorations – the only catch is that you can’t eat them!
Thank you Larysa for creating such fantastic decorations, they’ve certainly brought a bit of Easter festivity to my home!
