The awards season is in full swing and last night we were treated to a double dose of red carpet glamour from the Bafta’s and the Grammy’s.
The anticipation for who was going to win what at the Bafta’s has been growing rapidly, and with so many great films around this year it was wonderful (though not all that surprising ) to see The King’s Speech win a fabulous 7 awards. Colin Firth deservedly won the Bafta for best actor with Helena Bonham Carter (who was dressed relatively demurely in Vivienne Westwood) winning best supporting actress. It was a shame that pregnant Natalie Portman couldn’t be there to accept her award for best actress for her role in Black Swan, but I am sure we will see her looking as beautiful as ever at the upcoming Oscars.
My main draw for watching the Bafta’s was of course the dresses. There were a few standout looks for me; Emma Watson may still be young but she certainly has mastered the art of red carpet elegance and looked beautiful in a nude Valentino Couture gown. Noomi Rapace celebrated as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo won an award for best film in foreign language in a glittering gold Givenchy Couture dress. It is hard to believe new comer Hailee Steinfield is only 14 years old, she looked perfectly ladylike in a crystal embellished Miu Miu dress.
Meanwhile across the pond in America, the Grammy’s were taking place, where Lady Gaga stole the show, arriving at the ceremony in a giant egg.
All that’s left to say now is, bring on the Oscars!
