Pitch Perfect

World Cup fever has now officially taken over at Isabella Oliver so in our excitement (and in the midst of a tense office sweepstake) we’ve decided to give you a rundown of the most maternity-friendly places in London to catch the games.

SOCCER AT THE CINEMA
Sit back, relax and enjoy the football. Hidden away behind the railway arches of Loughborough Junction, Whirled Cinema is showing some fixtures (including England’s group games) in the comfortingly quiet surroundings of their charmingly cosy screens. Rather enjoyably, they’ve decided to call it the ‘Whirled Cup’ – we’re considering going for the name alone.

TOURNAMENT TREAT
Never has The Beautiful Game sounded so beautiful – Browns are turning four courtrooms into exclusive viewing spaces to watch the World Cup. Available for groups of 10-150 people, this is the kind of big family event that makes the football into a remember-forever event. We bet they have air conditioning as well.

PARK LIFE
If the thought of sitting in a crowded room in the heat isn’t up your street then a shaded spot in the park with an iPad might be the answer. Live streams make life so much easier and a well-planned picnic can make it quite the occasion. We love the idea of finding a quiet part of Kew Gardens or Hampstead Heath and setting up camp.

VIEW FROM THE TOP
If watching the actual football isn’t high on your list of priorities, may we suggest a room with a view? Sky Bar at Millbank Tower, Victoria has simply stunning views of the city and offers a very appropriate and delicious-sounding menu of Brazilian inspired burgers. We could definitely spend 90 minutes looking out of those windows.

A PAMPER WITH THE PENALTIES
It’s cheating a bit but it’s the most relaxing way of watching football we’ve ever heard of – try heading a little (or a lot) out of London for a Spa Day at a hotel. We could all do with a pamper after a hard day of cheering on your team and it is called the game of two halves for a reason so there’s nothing wrong with popping off for a quick facial at half time.
