Why did you start Isabella Oliver?
When I was pregnant with my oldest child, Oliver, I really struggled to find clothes that felt like me, reflected my style and also offered a great fit. We launched Isabella Oliver to offer women a maternity collection that flatters their pregnancy curves, is comfortable, fits throughout their pregnancy and is made in quality fabrics that wash and wear well. We wanted the Isabella Oliver woman to own maternity clothing that would look just as stylish in her wardrobe as any other piece she owned.
What is important to you?
Right from the start, I wanted Isabella Oliver to be a brand that is a friend, somebody that you can trust. There is a lot going on when you’re pregnant and clothes only play a small part but it’s a special part. We pride ourselves on our fantastic pregnancy collections but it’s equally important to us that we provide great service and listen to what’s important to our customers. We’re years on now but our principles haven’t changed - design, comfort, quality and service are at the heart of what we do. Every time a woman tells me how much Isabella Oliver made a difference to her pregnancy it makes my day.
What do you enjoy most at Isabella Oliver?
I love nearly every area that I’m involved in but a highlight is always the photo shoots as this is where it all comes together – the collection, the styling, the mood of the season. Another highlight is when we finally share our collections and editorial stories with our customers – by that time we’ve been working on it for 14 months so it’s both an exciting and nerve-racking time rolled into one.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I live in London and it’s our catwalk of inspiration. Just spending a day out and about in London gives so many ideas for styling, fabrics, colours, textures, and shapes. Of course I also get lots of inspiration while travelling.
Finally, what would be your top tips for the pregnant woman?
Oh quite a few! Firstly, invest in great quality maternity clothes that flatter the curves so that you can enjoy them right the way through your pregnancy. Also, don’t change your personal style too much, just find maternity equivalents of what you wear when you’re not pregnant. Treat yourself kindly, as you would your best friend. Take time to soak in a relaxing bath, surround yourself with music, flowers and all your favourite things, enjoy a massage, indulge yourself and of course - sleep!
