Dean Street Townhouse
Hi, Baukjen here...
I'm just back from a working lunch at the newly opened Dean Street Townhouse. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous. The menu has lots of, as our lunch companion said, "British Guilty Pleasures". We ordered the chicken and leek pie. It was beautifully presented (see the photo) and tasted equally wonderful. We decided not to order desserts but when we paid the bill, they brought us complementary warm mini mince pies which we couldn't resist. Absolutely delicious. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, tea and supper. We'll be sure to return soon.

The Loft Project
Hi, Baukjen here...
Last night Geoff and I headed off to The Loft Project. It’s the supper club/personal test kitchen for chef Nuno Mendes (who trained at the famous El Bulli) and it takes place at his home (below are pictures from his website). There are a maximum of 16 guests and you sit at a long table with people you don’t know which was fun. The food was superb and we were all guessing what the components of each course were. I lost count of how many courses there were, there were lots. I took some pictures but unfortunately you can’t see very much as it was quite dark. It was a fun and delicious experience. We can highly recommend it to those living in or visiting London. To find out more, just click here. If you go, keep in mind that you’ll be home quite late. The last course is served at 11.30pm.

Pizza East in Shoreditch
Hi, Baukjen here. On Saturday we were in Shoreditch with the kids and popped into the newly opened Pizza East
It looks absolutely fantastic. We were there before the lunch rush started, so it looks empty in the pictures I took but as we had lunch, it soon filled up. The kids had pizzas and we enjoyed calamari. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, I think this place is going to be very popular.

Il Buco
Hi, Baukjen here. One day during our New York trip it was Harriette's, my sister-in-law, birthday. Geoff and I took her to dinner to celebrate and she chose one of her favourite NY restaurants - Il Buco. We had never heard of it. What a great place. The photos on their website do not do the ambience any justice, it has a warm candle lit feel, very french bistro like. The food was wonderful too. We will be going there again one day.
Whilst having dinner, a man who was seated at the table next to us, started to speak to me in Dutch. He had heard us talk and had lived years ago in Belgium. I was rather relieved I hadnt talked with Harriette about the ins and out of our pregnancies (she is expecting her third child) as that could have been rather embarrassing.
Later during dinner, we were showing Harriette the new maternity collection that we will be launching for Autumn Winter later this year. Whilst we were looking at the photos, a woman on the table next to us (this time on the other side) asked us what we were looking at. In London no-one would ever ask that to a stranger but she seemed very nice and genuinely interested so Harriette told her that it was our new collection. She asked if she could see it, normally we would not do this as it's confidential until launch but it felt unfriendly to say no. So she had a good look and was extremely complimentary saying that she would wear lots of the clothes herself even though she wasn't pregnant (I am not good with age but estimate she is around 55 years old). Very nice woman. When she later left she told us that she was a well known cake maker called Sylvia Weinstock. Apparently she's very good at what she does and makes the cakes for all the celebrity weddings. I am slightly relieved we only learnt this as she was leaving as I am sure Geoff would have been asking her for baking techniques.
Anyway, Il Buco is more than worth trying out if you are in New York.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
Vanessa brought in two dozen krispy kreme doughnuts for us to try. Most of us had never eaten one before and thought a doughnut is a doughnut. Were we wrong, they are delicious! It is a very good thing the shop is on the other side of London!

Cupcakes

Susan arrived back yesterday after nearly four weeks down under. We were thrilled that she was back and had ordered the cutest and yummiest cupcakes available in London with "Welcome back suze" written on them. They were as delicious as they were pretty. The Primrose Bakery made them. We strongly recommend to our London customers!

Gilgamesh
Last night, to celebrate that we've finished the spring summer brochure and thank everyone for their hard work and long hours, we took the marketing team to Gilgamesh. None of us had ever been eventhough its actually quite close to us. What a fabulous location, everyone was in great spirits just being there. We had drinks followed by very good pan-asian food. Absolutely recommend it. It was a great evening and worth a visit.

Somerset House
On Friday we were invited by an acquaintance, Philip, to lunch at somerset house. This is a stunningly beautiful location and in the winter has a magical ice rink we always forget to go to. There were around 18 friends of Philip at the lunch and it was nice to meet so many new faces. Some people left just after lunch ended, however quite a few of us stayed on for an hour or two. I met a very nice woman whose birthday it was. All in all a wonderful afternoon.

Claridges
Hi, Baukjen here. Yesterday was my birthday and I had a fantastic day. It started by being awoken by my family singing happy birthday followed by a sumptious breakfast. I was spoilt with gifts including delicious things for the bath from Molton Brown from the kids, a beautiful joshua joseph scarf from geoff, a tree (for our new garden) from my mother and step father, a fabulous kate spade gold ipod case from vanessa, a lovely neckace in my colours from the isabella oliver girls.
In the afternoon I went to the Isabella Oliver office where Vanessa had bought a huge very rich chocolate cake that we ate with all the girls (see below). In the evening Geoff and I went to 43 South Molton Street where we were supposed to have dinner except their restaurant wasnt finished! So instead we had a cocktail (my first drink since being pregnant!) and called Quintessentially who quickly arranged a table at Gordon Ramsey at Claridges around the corner. Dinner was fabulous, the service impeccable and being out with Geoff was great. However my body isnt used to alcohol anymore so i was wide awake at 5 am this morning! It was a fabulous day. Baukjen

Happy Anniversary
On Monday Geoff and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. After work, we put the kids to bed, spruced up and headed off to The Square for dinner. It's a Michelin two star restaurant so Geoff was hugely excited and of course took the tasting menu (meaning I had to too). There were 7 tiny courses which Geoff matched with at least 5 glasses of wine plus he finished off my plates (including the not at all small chocolate souffle at the end). The food was good, not as great as at Petrus a few weeks ago, but still I wouldn't dare complain. After dinner we headed home and Geoff moaned of feeling full. Being 8 months pregnant I was not the most sympathetic of wives. It was a lovely evening and we reminisced about all the things that have changed in our lives these last few years: 2 kids plus one on the way, bought and renovated a home, set up Isabella Oliver with Vanessa... We look forward to the next 4!

Great Restaurant in London
Yesterday I (Baukjen) finally had lunch with a friend who I hadnt seen in 2 years. She's been very busy building the best wedding list company in the UK called Wrapit. Thats how we actually met... when Geoff and I got married 4 years ago we had her company provide the wedding list. Anyway, Pepita suggested we go to Roka in Charlotte Street. Am I glad she suggested it, it was fantastic food!! I recommend it wholeheartedly. Liked the design too and service was good. After I popped in to a taxi to go back to the office and the taxi driver made jokes about me not dropping the baby in the back seat - now have 6 weeks to go and must admit I look like I am 2 weeks overdue. Kids gape with their mouths open, strangers ask me if I'm sure I'm not having twins. I tell them no, they ask me if I'm sure... What am I supposed to say to that??

Beauty Treatments and Lunch In Notting Hill
After weeks of working like crazy and feeling blah, Baukjen and I (Vanessa) decided to play hookie and treat ourselves to a girls morning with an eve lom facial at Spa Nk followed by lunch. Baukjen went an hour earlier and had a relaxing pregnancy message. the eve lom facial was fantastic, the beauty therapist (danutta or something like that) is going to be our new best friend! after we went to their shop and did more damage. we got told off for trying something which apparently wasnt a tester but we didnt know. we didnt like this grumpy sales assistant at all and she obviously didnt like us. we made a quick exit and had lunch at The Chair which has had mixed reviews. food was fine, the french waiter was mr charming and could have sold anybody anything. a real asset to the restaurant/furniture shop. went downstairs after lunch and bought some great big cushions for the floor.

Michelin Star Restaurant
Hi, Baukjen here. My husband (Geoff) is a real foodie and normally loves to cook or go out to restaurants. During this pregnancy I.ve gone off all food that has a hint of taste, preferring bland things like potato, spinach etc. I thought I.d organise a nice surprise for him and booked a table in one of Gordon Ramsey.s restaurants in London. Petrus was recommended and I.m not at all surprised! Geoff ordered the tasting menu, a massive 10 courses, albeit small ones. The waiter said that it was only possible to order the tasting menu if the whole table (i.e. 7 months pregnant me) participates. My husband looked at me, the waiter looked at me and I succumbed. To be honest I had no regrets, the courses were small and so tasty! Definitely one of the best meals I.ve ever had (pregnant or not). My husband also had an accompanying wine tasting menu which looked like it was fun . must come again to try that when I haven.t got a baby on board! The service was so good; it was a perfect night out. And they sent us home with truffles in a box which should hopefully have the babysitters (mum and step dad) volunteering again next time!
