Continuing our series of posts by guest bloggers is My Fashion Life editor, Emily O’Brien. Since launching in 2003, My Fashion Life has become one of the UK’s leading fashion blogs and so we can’t wait to find out what her favourite pieces from Isabella Oliver 365 are…
I love summer’s trend pieces – brights and prints appeal wonderfully to my whimsical side – but as more of it filters into stores, I find myself being drawn back to basics. Sure, I love cool quirks and edgy accents, but I’m a real sucker for classic, practical pieces that are elegant enough to last a lifetime. Which is why, despite this season’s love for bold, statement stripes, I find myself longing for the Breton (again). I know, I know, we go there and do that every spring, but there’s just something utterly irresistible about the simplicity of the Breton’s blue and white stripe. And it’s epitomised on this jumper dress.
Like everything I love, it’s classic, practical, elegant and understated. And as for the whimsy part? Well, that comes with accessories. This dress is all I want to wear right now – it’s perfect for this indecisive is-it-isn’t-it-summer weather – and it’ll look super sweet under the cute dungaree dress I just bought from eBay or alone as its design intends.
And if I go down the latter route, I’m going to need this trench coat. See? Another one of those items that ticks every box on my style list. I’d throw it over my Breton striped dress with a pair of outrageously high booties (Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony’s get my vote) and a boxy, bright-coloured satchel for timeless style with a new-season twist.
For something with more oomph, a simple swap of jacket is all it takes. I’ve been coveting this leather jacket for so long I can’t remember. It’s cool without being pretentious, and even through the screen I can just tell it’s the softest leather (one of my many hidden talents).
It’ll add serious edge for evening occasions and it doubles up as a great downtown alternative for days where a trench is too chic – a simple pair of plimsolls will be a super cute match to take it down a notch. Looks like I’ve got a bit of shopping to do (and a slight obsession to solve).
